Ann Brashares writes The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, a New York Times Bestseller, about four girls who share a pair of ordinary pants that help them 1) realize they need to believe in and love their friends, family, and themselves. 3) All four girls tell this story in the first-person perspective. Brahshares 6) uses this technique to build suspense. She stops a chapter right when something interesting happens, and moves onto the next girl. This skill keeps readers reading the whole time, wanting more. This 2) story centers on Bridget, Tibby, Lena, and Carmen who are 4) not spending the summer together, for the first time in their lives. Bridget goes to a 5) soccer camp in Baja, California where she meets 2) Eric, and 7) instantly falls in love with him. Tibby 5) stays home, in Bethesda, Maryland, where she 7) tries to start a movie with 2) Bailey, who has leukemia, and 2) Brian, who is a complete and total nerd. Lena goes to 5) Greece to visit her grandparents, where she meets 2) Kostos who is interested in her, but she is not very interested in him. Carmen 7) goes to visit her dad, 2) Al, in 5) South Carolina 7) where she meets his new family, 2) Lydia, Kristy, and Paul. 7) The Pants get passed around to everyone throughout the summer. The Pants are with the girls for each devastating thing that happens to them, 7) like Eric telling Bridget they couldn’t be together, Bailey dying, Lena realizing she is in love with Kostos but cannot be with him, or Carmen running away from her dad’s new home. The Pants comfort all the girls and keep them hopeful, when they are separated. These Pants symbolize the friendship shared by these four girls, and is the only thing that knows the whole story, for each girl. 8) This is an uplifting book that will stay with readers for a long time and have them running to the bookstore for The Second Summer of Sisterhood.           --D.S. 1/24/08

This is a very complicated plot with multiple characters each encountering troubles of their own in different locations.  A well done summary for such a story.
