Welcome to the “new” Patos Team math class’s web page!

2005-2006

My name is Mark Beymer and I will be your child’s seventh grade math teacher this year. My mission as a teacher is to help all my students to be successful and to reach their highest potential. I take my job as a teacher very seriously, and will expect your child to take his/her job as a student just as seriously. I will strive to do my best, and will want your child to give me his/her best effort in return.

Communication is very important and a two-way street. Please feel free to call, e-mail, or make an appointment to meet with me any time a question or concern arises. You need not wait until conferences in December to meet with me concerning your child. My phone number is 676-4887 extension 4725. Feel free to leave a message anytime. You can also e-mail me.  My e-mail address is: mbeymer@bham.wednet.edu.

The curriculum:

Seventh grade mathematics in Bellingham utilizes the math curriculum for grades 6-8 called the Connected Math Project (CMP for short!).  Based on the latest research on the brain, learning, and teaching mathematics, this curriculum teaches mathematics through discovery and making connections.  Much of the math will be taught through problem solving real-life situations, as students do investigations to “construct” their understanding of the concepts.

Progression of 7th grade CMP math books:

·        Variables and Patterns (graphing and pre-algebra)

·        Stretching and Shrinking (similarity)

·        Comparing and Scaling (ratios and proportions)

·        Filling and Wrapping (volume and surface area)

·        What Do You Expect? (probability)

·        Accentuate the Negative (integers).

Homework information:

Look for math homework nightly- Monday through Thursday.  There will not be assigned homework on the weekends unless your student is making up for an absence.

NEED HELP? I am usually available before and after school, and during lunch, to help students with homework questions. Just let me know you are coming in!

MORE TIMELY HELP- Please call my homework hotline number: 676-4887

                                                                           Extension 4725.

I leave an updated message every night with advice and tips for doing the assigned homework problems, as well as information about what we did in class that day and advanced notice of upcoming tests and quizzes.
